Person VS Self
In Finally, Rory often fights herself because everyone sees something in her that she does not, so she can get frustrated. Leo and Amanda, also characters in the previous book in the series, Eleven, are always saying how special she is and how different she is from everyone else. Rory, however, always sees herself as though she is fading into the background. Also, Rory does not have much self confidence at first. This can act like a weight on her shoulders, always bringing her down.

The protagonists are the good characters in the novel. In this novel, one of the protagonists are Rory, the main character. In the beginning of the story, Rory did not know what she needed in life. After a strange visit from someone that she had never met before, she was told the message, "You will not get what you want until you see what you need." At first, Rory was puzzled by this. After she decided to try and process the message more later, she helped many people with everyday activities that made a difference in their lives (check out our themes page). At the end of the book, everyone who Rory helps come together and meet Rory again, and remind her just how important helping others is. The other protagonists in the noel include, Sari, Annabelle, Jake Harrison, and the members of Sasha's family who Rory helped.

The antagonists are the bad characters in the novel. Rory, although being the main protagonist, is also one of the most prevalent antagonists. Rory is constantly fighting with her emotions. She feels that she lacks self-confidence, so she is the one to always second guess herself. She is the one to always hold herself back, not pushing herself to her true limitations. Rory is in need of just feeling OK to be- Rory! As she states, "I always fade into the background." If Rory "sees what she needs", she should be able to fix this problem. Another protagonist is Madison Waters, who makes Rory feel unpleasant when she is around. Madison is just an all around selfish kind of person. One thing matters to her- Madison!

The climax is the turning point in the story. In Finally by Wendy Mass, the climax is when Sasha, the girl that Rory helped get a ballet scholarship, saw Rory sitting down in the front yard of a house, waiting for her mom to come and pick her up. Since Sasha's house was just a little further down the street, she invited Rory to wait there with her mom. When Rory got there, she saw strangely familiar faces. It turns out that everyone that she helped during the story was all in the same family! After everyone shared their stories about how Rory had helped them out, she had learned a valuable lesson: stop caring about the material things in life; it's helping out others who need it that matters.
The resolution is the lesson learned when you have finished the novel. In this story, the lesson is the same thing that we have mentioned time and time again on this website, because it's a great message that we want to get across to whoever goes to this site. The message? Helping others should take priority in your life, the material things won't matter in the end. Rory learns this from all the people that she has helped in the duration of the novel.
Rory wanted full responsibility when she turned twelve, but got the message, "You will not get what you want until you see what you need", so she knew that getting responsibility didn't matter anymore, what mattered was helping the people around her who were in need of it.
